The monograph explores the problem of the religious-aesthetic uniqueness of Russian modernism using the example of two of its most prominent movements: symbolism and cubo-futurism. Placing the task of 'creative life' ('life-building') at the forefront, far beyond the goals and forms of traditional art, makes Russian modernism a phenomenon deeply related to Russian national consciousness. This urges the researcher to pay close attention to clarifying the general specificity, formal and substantive features, mental foundations, and analyzing the diversity of approaches to solving the problem of 'creative life' in literature and - more broadly - the spiritual culture of Russian modernism. Consequently, it leads to studying the relationship between purely literary and extraliterary (philosophical, religious, sociocultural, etc.) determinations. The development of all the mentioned questions and directions is intended to definitively establish the view of Russian modernism as a unique mental and artistic formation. Intended for students, graduate students, and teachers of philological faculties of higher educational institutions.
