Alexander Nevsky is one of the most controversial figures of the Russian Middle Ages. His ability to solve complex "political equations" earned him respect from contemporaries and descendants. However, this same quality became the reason for accusations of lack of principles and even betrayal of Russia's interests. Over the centuries, the political biography of the prince has been covered with very whimsical layers of "narrative." In historical memory, the documentary basis of knowledge about the life and deeds of Alexander Nevsky has been almost completely obscured by texts and artistic images of later origin. To uncover these layers, to separate historical facts from hypotheses, is the goal of a new book by Doctor of Historical Sciences, Professor V.V. Dolgov.
