The memoirs of Count A.A. Ignatiev tell the story of an officer in the Russian Imperial Army. The author describes in detail his education in the cadet and page corps, talks about his days at the Nikolaev Academy of the General Staff, and shares thoughts on the tragic Russo-Japanese War. The fate of the count at the beginning of the 20th century was not much different from that of most of his fellow officers in the Russian Imperial Army, but the revolutionary upheavals drastically changed his life and views.
