The book is dedicated to the religion and cults of Hellenistic Commagene (164/163 BC - 72 AD), a small state in southeastern Anatolia, during the reign of Mithridates I Callinicus (100-70 BC) and especially his son - Antiochus I Theos (69-34 BC). The book primarily focuses on the royal and dynastic cults of the Commagenian rulers, especially Antiochus I, under whom the doctrine of deifying the king and his ancestors was formalized. To address the set task, the author draws on a variety of sources: written, archaeological, and epigraphic, mostly from the era of Antiochus I. Consequently, and partly for this reason, the main emphasis is placed on the reign of this particular king. The main conclusion of the book is that the official religious system of the Commagene Kingdom during the era of Antiochus I is a vivid example of Greco-Iranian syncretism. The publication is intended for students, master's students, doctoral students, and teachers.
