A book for those who have already achieved a lot but want to reach a qualitatively new level of development. Let's say, by the age of thirty, you already know how to set up a call center in Tver with a thousand operators, play out the Ponciani debut in a chess game, and change the faucet at the sink. All of these are your competencies. Although not all of them can be monetized, in different circumstances, all of them can be useful. Competencies are accumulated throughout our lives, but the key defining knowledge and skills are acquired between the ages of twenty and thirty. Why not earlier? Because only by twenty do we roughly begin to understand what we want to do. It's somehow not possible to figure it out earlier (although for some, it's not possible even until retirement). Why not later? Scientists have calculated that ten thousand hours of practice allow a person to become a master in any field, be it programming, playing the cello, or heavy machinery engineering. It takes about ten years to accumulate ten thousand hours of practice. And then, every successful person faces the task of moving to a new level and doing something greater. Something even more significant. Typically, this can only be achieved together with other people, combining your capabilities with theirs. Therefore, the critical importance of connections is acquired after thirty. Because by this time, the potential of personal qualities and competencies is exhausted. And connections, on the contrary, begin to play a decisive role.
