On July 28, 1912, the schooner 'St. Anna' set sail from St. Petersburg. The expedition, led by Lieutenant Georgy Brusilov, was supposed to travel the Northern Sea Route to Vladivostok with one wintering. However, in early October, the schooner became trapped in ice in the eastern part of the Kara Sea and soon began its forced drift to the north. The crew was unable to free themselves from the ice captivity. In April 1914, 11 people led by navigator Valerian Albanov left the ship and headed towards the mainland. Only two of them reached the shore: navigator Valerian Albanov and sailor Alexander Konrad, whose diaries are first combined in this book. Fragments of Valerian Albanov's diary, who became the prototype for the navigator Klimov, can be found in Benjamin Kaverin's novel 'Two Captains'. Here, in the context of artistic storytelling, many other facts from the history of 'St. Anna', named 'St. Maria' by the writer, are interwoven.
