"Moon in the Mist" is the most famous work by Ueda. The collection consists of nine novellas reflecting the dreams, hopes, and disappointments of the writer's contemporaries. The heroes of the stories fight for justice, perform good deeds, find themselves at the center of rebellions, encounter bandits and werewolves, and converse with the spirits of deceased rulers who confess in the most shameful details of their unjust rule. All novellas are distinguished by brilliant style, vivid character images, and an engaging plot. This edition also includes the collection "Tales of the Spring Rain." Ueda worked on its content for almost two decades but never managed to publish it during his lifetime. The manuscript was considered lost for a long time and only reached the reader in the mid-20th century.
