The misadventures of virtue

For the Marquis de Sade (1740-1814), there were no concepts of 'cannot' and 'wrong'. Throughout his life, he was a proponent of a doctrine where everything that pleases the soul is allowed, all human vices that arise in consciousness at the snap of a finger. Pleasures - that's what makes life worth living. The characters in his books are of the same order and do not want to be different - they do not need to be.
In such an environment, where everything is 'horribly black', the heroine of 'The Misfortunes of Virtue' finds herself. She tries to live by the laws of morality, but all her actions bring only evil, and it remains only to guess whether she will be able to resist all temptations and remain the virtuous person she wants to be.
