This edition is one of the first works that partially reveals the mystery behind the origin of the ethnonym 'Rus' and 'Slavs'. It belongs to the pen of the Russian legal scholar, ordinary professor of Moscow University, Fyodor Lukich Moroshkin (1804-1857). The author adheres to the viewpoint that the ancestors of the Rus and Slavs were quite widely spread across the expanses of Eurasia, and ancient historians described them under various names, sometimes inaccurate. F. L. Moroshkin tells us: 'Now, having a significant reserve of philological and historical evidence on their side, I confidently assert that Rus comes from the word 'forest' or 'grove'.
