This edition includes the first Russian translation of Philo of Alexandria's treatise "About Joseph", the Greek original text with selected variants, an introductory article, and footnotes. Philo, a Greek-speaking Jewish author of the first century AD, presents the biblical story of Joseph (chapters 37-50 of the Book of Genesis), embellishing it with details, psychological justifications, speeches of the characters, as well as allegorical interpretations of both the entire story and its individual passages. The introductory article and comments help the reader understand the intricacies of Philo's thought, which combines popular philosophical ideas of Hellenism, metaphors from Plato's dialogues, and the Jewish school tradition of biblical exegesis.
