The work of Viktor Nikolaevich Zemskov (1946-2015) is dedicated to studying the key role of the Soviet proletariat in the struggle against the German fascist occupiers during the Great Patriotic War. The research is based on archival sources, information from periodicals and historiography of the 20th century: articles, brochures, reports of local party organizations, and even information drawn from literary works, such as A. A. Fadeev's 'The Young Guard'. In this context, V. N. Zemskov first distinguishes the working class as a separate category of the population that showed the most fierce resistance during the occupation of 1941-1944.
