Heading into exile on the island of Elba, Napoleon Bonaparte promised to "return with violets" and he kept his word: on March 20, 1815, the imperial eagle landed in Paris, thereby turning the lives of many people upside down. "In times of political crises, the most difficult thing for an honest person is not to fulfill their duty, but to understand what it consists of," said one contemporary. And indeed, not everyone understood. Benjamin Constant, who had denounced the usurper Napoleon, sharply changed his views and began to help him. The hero of two Revolutions, General Lafayette became a deputy of the Chamber of Representatives convened by Bonaparte to oppose him. Marshals covered in wounds switched sides... And only the Duke of Wellington knew for sure: his duty was to definitively defeat Napoleon. This is the subject of a new novel by the writer Ekaterina Glagoleva, which serves as a kind of epilogue to the long story of Napoleon Bonaparte's life.
