The monograph is dedicated to unknown events in the history of the Soviet offensive on the Southern Front in August-September 1919 and the roles in them of the outstanding domestic military leader of the beginning of the 20th century. Former Lieutenant General Vladimir Ivanovich Selivachev. During the offensive, the life of Selivachev, who commanded one of the two shock groups of the Southern Front of the RSFSR, tragically broke off under mysterious circumstances. In the white camp, it was believed that Selivachev deliberately tore the operation of the Reds, because he was a secret opponent of the Bolsheviks, for which he paid for life. In the Red camp, some considered him a hero, others - a potential traitor.
The author made an attempt on the basis of a wide range of documentary materials, a significant part of which had never previously concerned the researcher’s hand, to open the veil of secrets over the events. For the first time, the life path of Selivachev, the course of hostilities at the front of the Selivachev group and the circumstances of the defeat of the 8th Soviet Army by the White are in detail in the work. The publication publishes previously unknown unique documents from the Selivachev family archive.
The study is addressed to a wide range of readers interested in the military past of our country
