Gabriel Andreevich Sarychev is the famous Russian polar researcher, one of the largest oceanographers of his time, the studies of which were prepared by the great Russian round -the -world travels of the first half of the 19th century. Seven geographical objects are named after Sarychev: Cape and Strait in the Pacific Ocean, Island in the Chukotsk Sea, Mountains on the New Earth, Antarctica and the Aleutian Islands, the current volcano in the Kuril Islands. For compiling maps of the Baltic Sea, he was awarded the Order of St. Vladimir of the 2nd degree
