In the reign of Alexei Mikhailovich twice came to Russia Antiochia Patriarch Makariya: for the first time (1656) to collect donations, and in the second, - ten years later, - for the court over the Patriarch Nikon. In the first visit to him was his native son, Archidiakon Pavel Aleppsky, who compiled a detailed and extremely interesting description of the three-year travel of his father. According to the fullness and diversity of the content of Pavel Aleppsky - one of the best and most valuable written monuments about Russia is the middle of the XVII century and in many respects surpasses the notes about it of the then Western European travelers. In Russian, the translation from the Arabic manuscript of the Moscow chief archive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has completed prof. G.A. Murkos. The basis of this publication was taken by five issues of this work, which came out of the press in 1896-1900. In modern spelling, the book was first published in 2005
