The monograph presents a historical and pedagogical analysis of the development of the idea of improving the personality in the domestic scientific literature of the second half of the XIX - early XX centuries. From philosophical, public, historical and pedagogical positions and its reflection in the pedagogical heritage P.F. Lesgafta. In the monograph, the scientific and pedagogical activity of the domestic teacher, scientist, doctor of medicine PF Lesgaft and his contribution to the improvement of the Russian educational system. In the work on the basis of archival materials, a study of his personal and social life in the era of socially significant transformations was carried out.
