The beginning of the XX century. It was noted by a significant development of historical literature and the allocation as an independent region - the history of military art, and both cabinet scientists and professional military specialists begin to show interest in this family. One of the largest phenomena in this area was the fundamental work of the German scientist Hans Delbryuk.
The first volume of the work of Delbryuk begins with a description of the Greek-Persian wars of the 5th century. BC. and ends with Julius Caesar, the second is dedicated to the Germans and the German-Roman wars, starting from the time of August and ending with the early Middle Ages, the third covers the history of the Middle Ages, from Charles the Great to the Swiss-Burgundan wars of 1476-1477, in the fourth, last volume written by Delbryuk More briefly and summary, the military history of the XVI-early XIX century is stated. - From religious wars to the time of Napoleon. The last two volumes, with the consent of the author himself, were written by his student Emil Daniels, who brings the presentation to the Franco-Prussian War of 1870.

The author studied numerous sources, from ancient Greek and ending with the Swiss chronicles and modern works and documents.
