Notes of a correspondent for the London newspaper 'Daily Mail', made by him during his stay with General Nogi's Japanese army, which was besieging Port Arthur. Benjamin Wegner Nerregaard (1861-1935) was a Norwegian military officer, railroad engineer, journalist, diplomat, and renowned military correspondent. Nerregaard became a captain in the field artillery of the Norwegian army. From 1896 to 1900, he worked as a railroad engineer on the Imperial Chinese Railways. During the Boxer Rebellion of 1900, he was hired by allies as the head of the labor ministry in the Tianjin Provisional Government, holding the position until 1902. As a military correspondent for the Daily Mail during the Russo-Japanese War, he witnessed the siege of Port Arthur. Later, he worked in St. Petersburg as a foreign correspondent for a Norwegian newspaper. In 1909, he moved to Berlin as a correspondent for Morgenbladet. During World War I, he was one of the leading commentators on the ongoing war in neutral countries.
