The Gospel of Nicodemus is a unique early Christian apocryphal source of the 4th century. It consists of two parts - “Acts of Pilate” and “Descent to Hell”. Pharisee Nicodemus is known as a secret follower of Jesus (in 3: 1–15) The Gospel of Nicodemus describes the Pilate court over Jesus Christ and the descent of Jesus in Hell, the crushing of his gate and the outcome of the hellish depths of all the Old Testament righteous, including the ancestors of mankind Adam and Eve. This apocrypha had a huge impact on the formation and systematization of church teaching on the death of Christ, His descent in Hell and Resurrection, as well as on the iconography of these events. Excerpts from it are found in the works of both early Christian theologians and the Church fathers (for example, with John Zlatoust) For a wide range of readers interested in Christianity and apocryphal gospels
