Fifty-eight days (September-November 1942), Red Army soldiers under the command of Guard Sergeant Yakov Pavlov defended a residential four-story building. Having crossed half of Europe, the fascists could not take 14 steps to capture this building. And from that moment on, the war turned around: Soviet troops began to advance. Little Svetlana was saved from the basement of Pavlov's house. She stayed to live in the regiment, as attempts to find her relatives, unfortunately, were unsuccessful. When the war ended, the girl saw how her native Stalingrad was being rebuilt, how adults, changing their gym uniforms for civilian clothes, returned to peaceful, life-building professions.
