What could be better than a vacation... with adventures! However, the engineer Vasily Merkuryev, who had dreamed of the cold sea and autumn forest, does not want any adventures!.. But they begin as soon as he arrives at a small hotel by the sea. The owner introduces him to the guests, among whom are a student, a bored young man, a girl clearly out hunting, and... a young witch. Merkuryev, of course, does not believe in witches at all. And then, as if in mockery, the surrounding reality begins to play strange tricks on him: someone seems to be reading an ancient book about the life of the philosopher Kant, the fire in the fireplace lights itself, and a murder takes place at an abandoned lighthouse. Vasily Merkuryev is sure that witches, ghosts, and spirits do not exist - yet he keeps stumbling upon secret or obvious traces of their presence. Even his love for the young witch - or not a witch?.. - seems to have been foretold by otherworldly forces... Sometimes it is really hard to believe. Even harder to realize and accept! But if you allow yourself to believe - life turns out to be full of wonders, not imaginary, but very real ones!
