"Preferans at Mr. Literator's" is a historical detective novel, the main character of which is the famous Russian writer Mikhail Yevgrafovich Saltykov-Shchedrin. The story unfolds at the end of the 19th century in the Russian Empire, a time when revolutionary sentiments are strong and various political groups are active. The detective story revolves around the well-known revolutionary organization "People's Will," whose members do not hesitate to use any means to achieve democratic reforms. The famous writer Mikhail Saltykov-Shchedrin becomes involved in the activities of the People's Will. This gripping novel is a continuation of a series of works about the relationship between writers and authority in Russian history, which already includes books about Fyodor Tyutchev, Alexander Kuprin, and Alexander Blok.
