Ryunosuke Akutagawa (1892-1927) is a writer considered one of the most significant authors of Japanese literature of the 20th century.
The collection includes stories that brought Akutagawa worldwide fame (for example, 'Rashomon Gate', which served as the basis for the script of Kurosawa's Oscar-winning film, and 'The Spider's Thread', adapted as an anime anthology 'Classic Stories'), as well as stories unknown to the Western reader, bearing features of national uniqueness.
The adaptation of the stories, translation, cultural comments, compilation of exercises, and the dictionary were done by Associate Professor of the Department of Japanese Philology at the Institute of Asian and African Studies of Moscow State University, Natalia Krneta.
The publication is suitable for everyone who is beginning to learn Japanese and aims to read in Japanese.
