New means of information and communication (digital television, Internet, computers, tablets, smartphones, social networks, and messengers) have flooded the life of modern society.
Based on the research of contemporary thinkers, sociologists, and scientists specializing in cultural studies and communication sciences, the renowned Orthodox theologian Jean-Claude Larchet conducts a deep and detailed analysis of the destructive consequences that new media generate in various spheres of human life - cultural, social, psychological, intellectual, family, and especially spiritual. In the concluding chapter, the author proposes some preventive and therapeutic measures to overcome internet addiction and restore one's mental and spiritual identity.
The French edition of the book was published in 2016 (Paris: Cerf). For the Russian edition, the text was revised, corrected, and updated by the author.

Jean-Claude Larchet (Jean-Claude Larchet, b. 1949) is a contemporary French Orthodox theologian and patrologist, a doctor of philosophy and theology from the University of Strasbourg. The formation of J.-C. Larchet as an Orthodox theologian took place under the influence of his spiritual father Archimandrite Sergius (Shevich), as well as through communication with St. Justin (Popovich), St. Sophronius (Sakharov), disciples of St. Joseph the Hesychast - St. Ephraim of Katounakia and Elder Charalambos of Dionysiou, with St. Paisios the Athonite.
Jean-Claude Larchet is the author of 33 books translated into 19 foreign languages, more than 150 articles, and over 700 reviews. He is considered one of the leading contemporary Orthodox theologians and one of the rare authors capable of combining scientific rigor and a vivid perception of the inner life of the Church in his works.
