The monograph is dedicated to the analysis of various spheres of the everyday work life of the Orenburg provincial merchant class from the second half of the 19th to the beginning of the 20th century. The research allowed to understand that the business behavior of merchants, the level of comfort of their work, and the changes in the number of the merchant class depended on a multitude of objective and subjective factors.
