The book is dedicated to the history of urban territory development in England from the 17th to the early 19th century and the phenomenon of the English city in the modern era. The authors see their main tasks in summarizing the data of classical and contemporary studies in the field of English architecture and urban planning, as well as in detailed coverage of practical approaches to the development of urban territory using the example of the English tradition. The materials of the book are structured around specific urban planning events and projects of the period under consideration. The perspective of the topic changes from one section to another: the first part is dedicated to the city as a single organism, the second to the urban house as an atom lying at the foundation of the whole, the third to the landscape and amenities as a kind of connective tissue of the urban organism. The fourth part describes the two most striking urban planning projects of Georgian England: the ensemble of three squares in Bath by father and son Woods (1728-1775) and the reconstruction of London's West End, carried out according to the project of John Nash (1811-1835). The book has a popular science character and may be of interest to urbanists, designers, developers, researchers, and a wide range of readers interested in the history of England and English architecture.
