The collection of studies prepared on archival materials is devoted to the description of the history of a number of institutions of the culture of Leningrad and, above all, its completion in the era, traditionally called the “great turning point” from NEP to Stalinism (late 1930s) This is the Institute for the History of Arts (Zubovsky), the cooperative publishing house "Time", the section of translators at the Leningrad branch of the Writers" Union, as well as the journal Literary Study. The evolution and the end of cultural institutions are represented as the fate of individuals, generations, social groups, as the evolution of their speech. Research optics, uniting the articles presented in the collection, is tuned to micro -players, interest in figures of the second and third plan, in the rhetoric and pragmatist of archival documents, including official, to detailed, up to the lean, reconstruction of events.
