Before the readers is a classic work by the Belgian historian Henri Pirenne, dedicated to the so-called Dutch Revolt - the armed struggle of the Netherlands against Spanish rule in the 16th-17th centuries. This work, which is part of the author's main work, the fundamental seven-volume "History of Belgium," was published in the USSR as a separate edition. The author considers the history of the Dutch Revolt in the context of the history of the Belgian nation, when the emerging Dutch nation effectively split into two - the Dutch in the north and the Belgian in the south. The work contains a large amount of factual material on political history, the history of religious struggle, and the cultural history of Belgium in the 16th-17th centuries. The book is recommended for historians, social scientists, political scientists, students, and graduate students of historical faculties of higher educational institutions, as well as a wide range of readers interested in the history of European countries.
