Dante Alighieri's 'Divine Comedy' (1265-1321) is the greatest poetic work of European culture. It recreates the worlds of the medieval man and his conceptions of the Universe, God, and the afterlife of the soul.
Written in the first quarter of the 14th century and first published at the end of the 15th century, the 'Comedy' received the epithet 'Divine'. It consists of three interconnected parts - 'Hell', 'Purgatory', 'Paradise'. Each contains 33 songs, and one more serves as an introduction to 'Hell'. In total, there are 100.
The text of the 'Divine Comedy' is printed in the translation of Mikhail Leonidovich Lozinsky (1886-1955) with his comments and introductory article.
The plots and symbols of Dante are illustrated by Andrey Petrovich Karapetyan. His artistic cycle consists of more than 140 works for the entire poem.
