This book cannot leave anyone indifferent. Throwing us back 75 years to the period of Nazi occupation of the Netherlands, Anne Frank's diary tells the story of how several Jewish families tried to survive in a secret hiding place, hiding from the Gestapo. Day by day, the Jewish girl in her diary tells her imaginary friend Kitty everything that happens to her and the other inhabitants of the hiding place, writing down her most intimate thoughts, sorrows, and joys. Her childhood life, at the mercy of adults, quickly turned into something beyond her years, turning the girl's diary into a significant document and an act of accusation. The last entry in the diary is dated August 1, 1944, shortly after the Gestapo arrested all the inhabitants of the hiding place based on a tip. The fate of Anne and her family is tragic - they all perished in the concentration camp, with only the girl's father, Otto Frank, miraculously surviving, returning to the Netherlands after being liberated from the camp and finding the diary. In 1947, the entries were published in a print run of 3000 copies. The diary has been reprinted 6 times and translated into 67 languages. In 2009, Anne Frank's diary was recognized as a UNESCO Memory of the World Register object.
