Dostoevsky's "Diaries of a Writer" represent a "miniature encyclopedia of Russian life." The author published in them both fiction - stories, essays, and memoirs, as well as non-fiction - articles, notes, reviews, literary criticism, reviews, and feuilletons on social, political, and literary events of the time - he wrote about everything that personally struck and interested him. In the notes of 1877, Dostoevsky talks about the state of Russian satire, characterizes Nekrasov (as a poet and a person), discusses "Anna Karenina," and much more. Also, in the "Diary" for the year 1877, the fantastic story "The Dream of a Ridiculous Man" was first published. The "Diaries" were very popular among readers, who sent the author hundreds of letters every month, praising him for his "sincerity and honesty of thought." Even during the writer's lifetime, all the issues of the "Diary" for the year 1877 were collected and published in a separate edition.
