The grim years of the Great Patriotic War. The whole country is working for the front. And on the shores of the Arctic Ocean, in distant reindeer farms and collective farms, Soviet people are also exerting all their efforts to bring closer the hour of defeating the fascist invaders. An epidemic of 'hoof disease' strikes the reindeer herds. The food supply of a whole region is under threat. Young specialists - Komsomol members and party members - decide to drive the herds to new pastures, never used before, to the south, in the valleys of the Omolon Range. This is an incredibly difficult task. Few people, impassable roads, taiga and tundra hardships, and someone's mysterious harmful interference at every step.
