Leaving the devastated tall behind his back, Roland walks along the desert Mohan. He has no mule and almost nothing with himself - only sand under his feet and the sun burning the soul. A person in black runs ahead.

Only a boy named John - or Jake? - meets Roland with a pitchfork in his hands. A boy from a place called New York. He talks about “films”, “sidewalks” and “skyscrapers”. However, now Jake is alive, having got into the middle world - although no one understands how.
