Leaving the devastated tall behind his back, Roland walks along the desert Mohan. He has no mule and almost nothing with himself - only sand under his feet and the sun burning the soul. A person in black runs ahead.
After a long and painful transition, the shooter reaches the road station. The man in black managed to visit here, but he had already left. Only a boy named John - or Jake? - meets Roland with a pitchfork in his hands. A boy from a place called New York. He talks about “films”, “sidewalks” and “skyscrapers”. He saw things in which neither Roland or one of his friends would believe-except for one. The boy saw a person in black near. He killed him. However, now Jake is alive, having got into the middle world - although no one understands how.
The perfect companion for the shooter will come out of Jake. Since, like everyone else who helped Roland, he will most likely die too ... again. The road station tells cruel stories
