The culture of one of the most interesting and unique groups of Koryaks - residents of the village of Verkhny Parney - is presented. This western group of Koryaks has been influenced by a number of contact ethnic groups, which has left a distinct mark on its cultural identity. When discussing this group, the author sheds light on some major issues in Siberian studies: the origin and formation of the Koryaks, the genesis of Chukotka-Koryak reindeer herding. Using factual material, the author introduces the reader to some theories and concepts that have developed in ethnography (sociocultural anthropology) in our country and abroad. The research is based on field studies, archival materials, and material collections.
