Friedrich Nietzsche (1844 - 1900) was a German philosopher, philologist, poet, and author of famous works such as "Beyond Good and Evil," "The Antichrist," "Thus Spoke Zarathustra," and others. "The Birth of Tragedy from the Spirit of Music" is an aesthetic treatise in which Nietzsche presented his view on the origins of art, which emerged in Ancient Greece. According to the philosopher, it was in art that the ancient Greeks found an antidote to the meaninglessness of existence. It was from ancient Greek art that the ongoing struggle between light and dark, harmony and chaos, began, continuing through the subsequent centuries of European civilization. The collection also includes "Untimely Meditations," dedicated to the state of contemporary German culture and reflecting Nietzsche's two passionate intellectual interests - Wagner's music and Schopenhauer's philosophy.
