In the early 1960s, the rock band The Beatles gained immense popularity in Europe and America. This same period was also marked by another important social trend - the rise of the second wave of feminism. These two global cultural phenomena had a direct influence on each other: the music of the Liverpool quartet inspired women of their generation towards self-empowerment, and the presence of women in the biographies and works of the Beatles themselves was always significant. In her book, Christina Feldman-Barrett analyzes the personal and mediated (through music, television, and other mediators) relationships that women of different generations have had with this group. The author gives voice to the group's female fans - from the girls from Merseyside who tried to attend The Beatles concert in the 1960s to contemporary women - and also delves into the stories of wives, mothers, and other women who surrounded the musicians. Thus, the researcher suggests a reevaluation of the traditional approach to the historiography of the Beatles and places this cultural phenomenon in a broad socio-historical context linked to female emancipation. Christina Feldman-Barrett is a Ph.D. and teaches at Griffith University, Australia.
