The marauding campaign of the West to belittle the role of the Soviet Union in the defeat of Nazi Germany and to discredit the combat power and military skill of the Red Army is dominated by the myth that the human losses of Soviet troops "in the vast majority of battles far exceeded the German losses." This also applies to the victorious Battle of Kursk, in which the Red Army permanently deprived the Wehrmacht of strategic initiative. In recent publications, several authors have cited completely absurd figures regarding the ratio of losses between the Red Army and the Wehrmacht in the Battle of Kursk. For example, American researcher Dennis Showalter writes in the book "Armor and Blood: The Battle of Kursk" that the human losses of the Red Army in Operation "Citadel" (in the Kursk defensive operation) were almost 6 times higher than the German losses. The authors of the book "History of Russia" (edited by A.B. Zubov) claim that in the Battle of Kursk, the human losses of Soviet troops were 4.5 times greater than those of the Germans. The proposed book critically analyzes the existing estimates of human losses in the battles on the Kursk bulge and calculates the irrecoverable losses of Soviet and German troops in the Kursk defensive, Orel, and Belgorod-Kharkov offensive operations of the Red Army on a unified conceptual basis. The estimates of losses obtained refute the common belief of the "multiple exceeding of human losses of the Red Army over the losses of the Wehrmacht" in the Battle of Kursk. A significant portion of the book is dedicated to debunking widespread myths regarding the human losses of Soviet and German troops in the Battle of Kursk: about the "enormous" numerical superiority of the Red Army over the Wehrmacht, the "unparalleled" military skill, high combat spirit, and "nobility" of Wehrmacht soldiers, and the "superiority" of German military thought and troop management practices.
