The book is devoted to the study of complex Soviet-Baltic relations 1918-1939. In the second half of the 20th century, these events were studied in the Soviet historiography, taking into account the political conjuncture and the most complex topics were mentioned casual, and even even silent. Then in the post-Soviet historiography prevailed a sharply critical approach to the description of these problems. However, as it is expanding access to documents of that period, it was possible to impartially look at the Soviet-Baltic relations in their dynamics. The reader learns how the Soviet republics arose in the Baltics and were destroyed, which forces were behind the creation of there independent republics in 1918-1920. For the first time, the political and economic relations of the Soviet Union and the Baltic countries in the 1920s - 1930s were considered in detail in detail. Against the development of international relations in Europe. The meaning of this region is shown for the USSR foreign policy in the first years after the conclusion of peace treaties and in the context of the revolutionary crisis in Germany in 1923, the desire of Moscow to normalize bilateral relations and the conclusion of non-aggression treaties. Soviet-Baltic military contacts and Soviet support for Lithuania in its relations with Poland and Germany are investigated. The focus is on the events of the eve of the Second World War, when the USSR has sought to countergrade the influence of Germany in the Baltic States through the policy of collective security.
The book is designed not only for specialists, but also for all lovers of thoughtful reading interested in the history of their country
