In the autumn of 1912, the First Balkan War began - Bulgaria, Serbia, Greece, and Montenegro jointly acted against the Ottoman Empire and defeated it. However, the intervention of external players, primarily Austria-Hungary, and unresolved issues of territorial delineation in the Balkans quickly provoked a conflict among the allies, resulting in the Second, Inter-Allied, Balkan War of the summer of 1913. This book is a republication of articles from Russian newspapers of various political orientations for the years 1912-1913, dedicated to the breakup of the Balkan League and the war between its participants for the division of Macedonian lands taken from the Turks. The main themes are the search for right and wrong in the dispute over Macedonia, horror at the fratricidal war, and disappointment in the Slavic idea. The book is intended for specialists in Balkan history, Russian public thought at the beginning of the 20th century, as well as a wide range of readers interested in Russia's past, Balkan peoples, and the Slavic idea.
