The treatises "Sun Tzu" and "The Art of War" are remarkable examples not only of Eastern, but also of universal strategic thinking, and have long been unconditionally recognized as timeless classics. Despite formally belonging to the ancient Chinese canon of military-strategic writings ("The Seven Military Classics"), their global significance was realized early on: many of the principles from "Sun Tzu" and "The Art of War" easily transitioned from the realm of warfare to diplomacy and politics. Furthermore, with the emergence and development of management science, these treatises, along with "The Prince" by Niccolò Machiavelli and the works of Carl von Clausewitz, became the foundation for a number of management theories.
According to ancient Chinese teachings, strategizing is the art of psychological counteraction, which is why it is not surprising (especially considering the increasing relevance of interpersonal influence theory in the modern world) that the treatises "Sun Tzu" and "The Art of War" have remained popular and in demand for millennia.
