About the translator
Lionel Giles (1875-1958) was a British sinologist, writer, and philosopher. He held the position of head of the Department of Oriental Manuscripts and Printed Books at the British Museum. He became famous for translating Sun Tzu's 'The Art of War,' Confucius' 'Analects' (1910), and Laozi's 'Tao Te Ching' (1912).
