Spoken language is a living phenomenon in which many components come together and interact uniquely and distinctly. Living speech is the personal experience of each individual, a high art that embodies a person and their life. How should one approach the vast flow of changes in the Russian language and pronunciation? How do words function today? What additional burden do they carry in conditions of endless freedom and the right to be whoever you want to be? How have the internet and social networks changed the perception of public speech? And finally, is it necessary to master the art of speech?
Professor of the Department of Stage Speech at the School-Studio of the Moscow Art Theatre, Doctor of Art History Anna Nikolaevna Petrova answers all these questions and insists that correct and good speech is increasingly in demand in life and especially in professional activities, becoming a status category in recent years. It is no wonder that many public figures - politicians, businessmen, journalists, teachers - consider it necessary to improve their speech.
Good speech will always be an attribute of any educated person, helping them to establish themselves in society, influence the "minds, passions, and will of other people," obtain prestigious employment, and find a worthy circle of communication. Is it easy or difficult to master good speech, is it possible at all? Anna Nikolaevna unequivocally states in her book that yes, it is possible. But it requires learning.
The book "The Art of Speech" about the Russian language, its laws and rules, is the result of many years of personal practice, observations, research by the author, acquaintance with the activities of many different schools teaching the art of speech, as well as with the artistic experience of the Russian theater.
The book collects and reinterprets the laws and rules of speech, the methodological foundations of teaching the art of living speech: today's reflections, new knowledge, past convincing and effective experience, mistakes and miscalculations of practice. In this regard, many materials from the author's other works are once again collected and published.
In her work, Anna Nikolaevna devotes a significant place to issues of logic and intonation, correct breathing, improving diction and pronunciation, and solving syntactic and stylistic problems. Anna Nikolaevna conducts word work based on the material of great literary works.
