The novella by American writer Mark Twain (1835-1910) 'The Adventures of Tom Sawyer' is the most 'mischievous' and cheerful children's book of the 19th century. It has remained so even today - almost 150 years later... Here are thrilling adventures: life on an island, the exposure of a murder, treasure hunting - intertwined with the mischief and fantasies of a rascal boy. And all this is written with kind humor, love, and soulfulness.
The author said that the book was written not only for children but also for adults: he wanted to 'remind them of what they themselves were once like, what they felt, thought, how they talked, and into what strange adventures they sometimes got themselves into'. Indeed, in the characters of the story, one can see oneself, one's childhood pranks, experiences, sufferings, friendships, infatuations, grievances, tricks - everything that is close to readers of any age and at any time.
The work is published in the translation of the Russian children's poet and writer Korney Ivanovich Chukovsky (1882-1969).
For middle school age.
