Continuing his research on the "Thaw" culture (March 1953 - August 1968), which began in the books "Thaw: Events" (awarded the "Enlightener" prize, 2020) and "Thaw: Actors," Sergey Chuprinin reflects on the key turning points and trends of this period. How long did the "ideological NEP" last in the post-Stalin era? Can we speak of this time as a violently interrupted Renaissance, the lessons of which are becoming more and more relevant? How did the ethics of disobedience to official dogma and authoritarian outcries gradually emerge from under the weight of repression? The author seeks answers to these questions, relying on testimonies left by direct participants in the cultural processes of the 1950s-1960s. The articles included in the book tell of the Thaw as a complex time of hopes and disappointments, in which, however, there was room for morality, humanism, and resistance to the Soviet system. Sergey Chuprinin is a Doctor of Philological Sciences, a professor at the Literary Institute, and the editor-in-chief of the journal "Znamya."
