The book made an attempt at integrated television analysis as a profit-oriented business business. The topics discussed in the book differ in relevance: viewers and regularities of their behavior, social responsibility of television business, efficiency and organization of public broadcasting, sale of advertising, competitive advantages of television companies, marketing and strategic management, competition in the television industry, the value chain. To analyze Russian television, the author used a comparative approach, comparing the business practice of Russian channels with European and American television companies in the historical perspective of 1950-2010.
