William Sidney Porter, who wrote under the pseudonym O. Henry (1862-1910), is an American writer, a recognized master of a short story.
The future writer was left without a mother early, and at the age of fifteen he threw a school and entered a student at a pharmacist store, where He received the profession of a pharmacist, later worked as a draftsman, an accountant and a cashier at the bank.
The first literary experiments dates back to the beginning of the 1880s, when Porter begins to publish a humorous weekly in Austine, filling it with his essays, drawings, jokes. Due to the lack of money, the magazine closed a year later. And soon the porters were fired from the bank, accused of embezzlement of funds, and for three years he spent in prison, without ceasing to write stories. After the release, Porter moved to New York, and his stories quickly gained popularity among readers, and critics began to call the writer "American Gogol", "American Chekhov". 18 volumes.
