The textbook covers the basic laws, processes, and equations of thermodynamics and heat transfer that take place in modern technology, where there is an inseparable connection with the transformation of thermal energy or its transfer. Considering the need to improve the overall level of teaching the discipline, the author deemed it appropriate to present the essence of complex processes occurring in internal combustion engines, gas turbine and steam turbine installations, compressors in a possibly simpler and clearer form, to show the connection of processes with the principle of operation of these installations and methods for evaluating their efficiency. The appendices contain necessary reference information on the thermophysical properties of coolants and materials used in heat engineering, and at the end of each chapter, control questions for self-assessment and examples of solving typical problems are formulated for better understanding of the topics studied. The textbook is intended for students of vocational educational institutions.
