The "Thoth Tarot" deck was created in the 1940s by Aleister Crowley, a well-known magician, poet, writer, and founder of the philosophy of Thelema. In this deck, named after the ancient Egyptian god of wisdom, Crowley presented all his magical knowledge, while Lady Frieda Harris, a talented artist, captured them in the illustrations.
Due to the ambiguity of Crowley's cards, they have become one of the most popular decks of our time. While in earlier Tarot decks the theme of each card was conveyed through simple and clear images, Crowley made the images on the cards abstract, expressing the meaning of the arcana with complex symbolism rooted in the world of magic, astrology, alchemy, Kabbalah, Mediterranean and Celtic traditions, as well as in the secret mythology of Ancient Egypt.
