Starting to write the story "Taras Bulba", Nikolai Vasilievich Gogol (1809-1852) studied everything that could help him in the image of the Cossack world - from historical chronicles to folk songs. Perhaps that is why when reading the work, you have no doubt that the author unfolds an objective, unbiased picture of history before the reader.
The story describes one of the many wars of the Zaporizhzhya Cossacks with the Polish gentry that occurred in the XV-XVII centuries. But what did they defend? ONE EARE AND RIGHT LIFE? No. The most important thing for them was the Russian Orthodox faith. And they helped them in this struggle - brotherhood, kinship, partnership, honor and courage.
