The book includes 25 folk tales and legends of the Vietnamese (Kinh people) in translations by Russian orientalists. The prologue discusses the history of the study of Vietnamese tales in Russia and Vietnam, the problem of classifying genres of Vietnamese folklore, the specifics of the most widely spread and stable fairy tale motifs and plot schemes. The texts of the tales are accompanied by structural, cultural, and historical analysis of plots, motifs, heroes, and realities. The book is richly illustrated with Dong Ho folk woodblock prints.
The publication is addressed both to specialists in the history, culture, and folklore of Vietnam, and to a wide range of readers.
